Enhancing Logistics Efficiency: National Workshop Organized by DPIIT and World Bank

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in collaboration with the World Bank, conducted a National Workshop on Logistics Efficiency Enhancement in New Delhi. The event aimed to bring together stakeholders from the logistics sector to discuss challenges and opportunities for improving logistics performance in India.

Key Attendees

The workshop was attended by notable figures including Rajeev S. Thakur, Additional Secretary, DPIIT; E. Srinivas, Joint Secretary, DPIIT; Auguste Tano Kouame, Country Director, World Bank; and Mio Oka, Country Director, Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Workshop Sessions Overview

  1. Logistics Performance Index (LPI) Discussion:
    • The session focused on the approach and methodology used by the World Bank to calculate the LPI, aiming to deepen understanding of its calculation and the six parameters it assesses.
  2. Corridor Approach for Enhanced Logistics:
    • Discussion centered around the Bharatmala and Sagarmala Corridors, highlighting their role in improving logistics efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing first and last-mile connectivity.
  3. State-Level Best Practices and Digital Initiatives:
    • Various state officials presented their reforms, best practices, and digital innovations designed to boost logistics efficiency.

The workshop also emphasized the importance of digital tools like E-Way Bill and Fastag in facilitating logistics operations across India.
