The Krishi-Decision Support System (Krishi-DSS) is a pioneering geospatial platform specifically designed to enhance Indian agriculture. This first-of-its-kind system captures intricate details from expansive fields down to the smallest soil particles, providing comprehensive and easily accessible data.
Key Features
Krishi-DSS offers seamless access to a wide range of data, including satellite images, weather information, reservoir storage levels, groundwater conditions, and soil health metrics. It also provides near real-time information on critical indicators such as soil moisture, water storage, crop conditions, and dry spells. The platform’s “One Nation-One Soil” information system delivers detailed soil data, including soil type, pH levels, and overall soil health.
Significance
Krishi-DSS will enable the government to analyze cropping patterns by examining parcel-level crop maps from different years. The platform’s drought monitoring feature will allow the government to anticipate and respond to drought conditions more effectively. Additionally, Krishi-DSS will help identify specific field-parcel units, facilitating targeted interventions based on each parcel’s unique needs and cropping patterns.
The detailed soil data will assist in assessing crop suitability and land capability, crucial for implementing soil-water conservation measures. Moreover, the ground-truth data library within Krishi-DSS will promote innovation by providing valuable resources for researchers and the agricultural industry.
By integrating various data sources available on Krishi-DSS, the platform can also support the development of farmer-centric solutions, such as personalized advisories, and early disaster warnings for pest attacks, heavy rains, and hailstorms. Krishi-DSS has been developed jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Department of Space.
