Launch of Bharat Startup Ecosystem Registry at the Startup Mahakumbh Curtain Raiser Event

Event Details: Union Minister Piyush Goyal from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry unveiled the Bharat Startup Ecosystem Registry along with the website and logo for the ‘Startup Mahakumbh’ during its first curtain raiser event. This initiative is managed by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

Bharat Startup Ecosystem Registry:

  • Purpose: The registry serves as a comprehensive platform integrating data on startups, investors, incubators, and various stakeholders within India’s startup ecosystem.
  • Objective: To streamline processes and strengthen connections within the ecosystem, facilitating easier access to resources and support.

Startup Mahakumbh Overview:

  • Event Dates: Scheduled from March 18-20, 2024.
  • Location: Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
  • Vision: To assert global dominance in the startup sector and ignite entrepreneurship among the Indian youth.
  • Goals:
    • To amalgamate all startup ecosystem stakeholders.
    • To display the vast entrepreneurial, technological, and innovative strides made since the inception of the Startup India initiative in 2016.
  • Theme: ‘Bharat Innovates’ — highlighting the deep connection between innovation and startup culture.
  • Significance: Marks the start of an annual event showcasing the milestones of India’s startup ecosystem.

Historical Context:

  • Startup India Initiative: Launched in 2016 to bolster the ecosystem for high-growth business innovations.
  • Future Projections: Aims to enhance India’s economic integration with the global startup scene during the ‘Amrit Kaal’—the 25 years leading to India’s centennial of independence in 2047, moving towards a developed nation status (‘Viksit Bharat’).
