The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has launched the eSankhyiki Portal, a cutting-edge platform aimed at enhancing the accessibility and usability of official statistics in India. This portal represents a significant step forward in the integrated development of the national statistical system, aligning with global best practices and data dissemination standards.
Key Features of the eSankhyiki Portal:
- Data Catalogue Module:
- Centralized Data Access: The Data Catalogue module centralizes the Ministry’s major data assets, allowing users to search within datasets and download data of interest. This module includes seven key data products: National Accounts Statistics, Consumer Price Index, Index of Industrial Production, Annual Survey of Industries, Periodic Labour Force Survey, Household Consumption Expenditure Survey, and Multiple Indicator Survey.
- Extensive Datasets: The module currently houses over 2,291 datasets, each accompanied by specific metadata and visualization tools to enhance user experience and facilitate data analysis.
- Macro Indicators Module:
- Time Series Data: This module provides time series data on key macroeconomic indicators, offering tools for filtering and visualizing data. It allows users to create custom datasets and visualizations, which can be shared through APIs, thereby increasing the reusability of data.
- Comprehensive Coverage: The first phase of the Macro Indicators module includes four major products of MoSPI: National Accounts Statistics, Consumer Price Index, Index of Industrial Production, and Annual Survey of Industries, covering data from the past ten years. The portal currently hosts more than 1.7 million records.
Launch and Significance:
The eSankhyiki Portal was officially launched on Statistics Day by Dr. Arvind Panagariya, Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission of India, during a ceremony on June 29, 2024. The portal is in line with the theme of Statistics Day, “Use of Data for Decision Making,” emphasizing the importance of data accessibility for evidence-based decision-making.
This user-centric portal not only simplifies the access and reuse of information but also supports the creation of impactful analyses by providing a robust platform for data exploration and visualization. The initiative reflects MoSPI’s commitment to improving user experience and fostering data-driven decision-making processes in the country.
The eSankhyiki portal can be accessed through MoSPI’s website.
