Summary of the IndiaAI Mission Approval by the Union Cabinet

Mission Overview: The Union Cabinet has officially sanctioned the IndiaAI mission, with a substantial funding provision of Rs 10,371.92 crore. This initiative will be steered by the newly established IndiaAI Independent Business Division (IBD) under the Digital India Corporation (DIC). The mission aims to fortify the Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation ecosystem in India.

Key Components of the IndiaAI Mission:

  1. IndiaAI Compute Capacity:
    • Objective: To construct a scalable AI computing infrastructure to meet the growing needs of AI start-ups and the research community.
    • Features:
      • Deployment of over 10,000 GPUs.
      • Establishment of an AI marketplace offering AI services and pre-trained models, facilitating a centralized resource hub for AI solutions.
  1. IndiaAI Innovation Centre:
    • Purpose: To support the development and implementation of indigenous Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) and foundational models across vital sectors.
  1. IndiaAI Datasets Platform:
    • Functionality: Provides streamlined access to non-personal datasets, aiding AI innovations and research through a unified data platform.
  1. IndiaAI Application Development Initiative:
    • Goal: To foster the creation and adoption of AI applications in critical sectors based on problem statements from various governmental bodies.
    • Impact: Aimed at delivering socio-economic benefits through effective AI solutions.
  1. IndiaAI Future Skills:
    • Objective: To expand AI education and training across various levels of higher education, particularly focusing on underrepresented regions (Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities).
    • Implementation: Setting up Data and AI Labs to offer foundational AI courses.
  1. IndiaAI Startup Financing:
    • Purpose: To accelerate the growth of deep-tech AI startups by providing them with essential funding support for advanced AI projects.
  1. Safe and Trusted AI-Recognising AI:
    • Objective: To promote the development of responsible AI by implementing indigenous tools, self-assessment checklists, and comprehensive governance frameworks.
